Fishy Birthday Wishes from Shark Shawn

Image
Happy Wednesday! It's release time again at Whimsy Stamps - May Digital Release! All the new May images, papers and sentiments are available in the store now! 😀 Click HERE to see all new digital goodies! And as always it's instant gratification with digital stuff...no waiting time! Just download and start creating! Woohoo! 🙂 Here is a shaker card I made using the digital stamp Shark Shawn illustrated by no other than the fabulous Crissy and the digital Fish Sentiments set designed by our very talented Tracy . I colored Shawn with my Copics. I then added the water using different blues of Memento ink pads - I applied them with my Clarity Brushes - to make his body appear to be partially under water. I love the soft effect it gives if you apply the ink with these brushes, much smoother than if you would sponge the background. My fellow DT sister Jeanette shows a how to on this technique in the latest Whimsy YouTube Video. You can watch it HE

Celebrate - Whimsy's Bunny Balloon

Happy Sunday All! I've been trying a new coloring medium - pastel pencils. I have the Faber Castell PIT Pastell Pencils. So far I've used my pastel pencils only for small backgrounds or outlines. To be honest I don't know if I like the medium to color images for greeting cards. What I love abut them is that you can blend them very easily, they are a charm to work with. Downside...You have to be careful with all the chalk dust from the pastels while coloring so you wont smear them over your art work and also the colors will rub off so easily. Which is bad for greeting cards. It's ok for a painting which you keep behind glass, but not cards which get handled a lot. This means you have to apply a fixation in some form. I've tried a fixating spray but did not like how my image turned out. The colors looked completely different after applying the spray. I ended up throwing it away and had to start all over again. One good thing though, if you make a mi

Happy Birthday Shaker Card - Whimsy DT

Image
Happy Tuesday! After being on a little getaway over the Easter holidays I had no creation to share last week but I am back with a new card today. Do you like shaker cards? I think they are so much fun and no matter if the recipient is little or grown-up I'm sure they will love them too! Here I used the Shaker Builder Die set to cut out the frame for my shaker card. The flowers are from the NEW Pretty Big Flowers clear set . I used my Misti to stamp the first layer on white card stock and the second outline layer on vellum. I stamped using Distress Oxide inks and in addition to stamping the outlines on vellum I also embossed them with clear embossing powder. If you heat emboss on vellum make sure to pre-heat your heating tool so your embossing powder melts faster, thus avoiding the vellum to warp from the heat. But still be careful not to over heat and damage the vellum. Then I layered the flowers together, adhered the layeres with glue dots and cut them out.

Whimsy April Rubber & Clear Release - Day 3

Image
Hello Everyone - Happy Friday! For Day 3 of the Whimsy April Release celebrations I have 2 creations to show. First is a little CAS card showcasing the super adorable "Mermaid Darling" by Kirsten Winkelbauer. I colored her with my Copics (guess what....this time I wrote down the colors I've used...woohoo ;-) ). While I was coloring her I thought it would be nice to have some sorts of underwater background for her. So I doodled this little underwater scene. First with pencils and outlined it afterwards with Copic Multiliner Pens. I think it looks kind of cute with the image, what do you think? For the water effect in the background I used a blue Pit Pastel Pencil (Faber Castell). It's hard to see in the photo but the bubbles have glitter (Stardust Stickles) on them. Here is my list of Copics used: Hair, Seaweed Tail: RV99, R39, R37, RV29, RV25, RV00 Mermaid Tail/Blouse: YG99, YG95, YG93, YG91, YG00, YG000 Skin: E50, E53, E43, R11 Fish, Cor

Day 2 of the Whimsy April Release

Image
Welcome to Day 2 of the Whimsy April Release! Today I have a CAS card to share. I made a Sympathy card using the Word Dies Set - Sympathy, Heartfelt and Condolences . I also used an older die from the Hand Stitched Border die set . The dandelion stamp is from the Friendly Flowers clear set . It was released back in February. Only embellishment are three sequins and the black layer is actually black glitter cardstock which I think gives an elegant look to the card. Thanks for dropping by and I'll be back tomorrow with two more creations! Hugs,

Shine Bright

Image
Happy Sunday All and welcome to my blog! Today I want to share a card I've made using two of Whimsy's newly released  clear sets - Shine Bright and Wish Upon a Star.  The back ground paper was created by stamping with the stars background stamp from the Wish Upon a Star set onto yellow DP paper using Morocco Memento ink.  The crackle background I made using a stencil and Liquitex Super heavy Gloss Medium onto heavy water color paper. I love this medium. It dries clear and you can create stunning effects with it. You will be seeing more of that soon on my cards. Once the medium was dry (it takes several hours to dry, best over night) I spritzed it with water and sprinkled on some Brusho in lemon, orange and scarlet - dabbing off the excess with a lint free cloth and let it dry again.  The sentiment was stamped with VersaMark onto black card stock and heat embossed with clear embossing powder. I then used VersaMagic Lemon Lime chalk ink to sponge the

Whimsy March Release Inspiration

Image
Hi Crafty Friends! Internet problems kept me from posting part of my Whimsy release creations last week *sigh*. But I am back online...yaya :-)  (fingers crossed it stays that way) and would like to share my creations today. On my first card today I used the NEW Distant Friends clear set. To create my card background I used the XOXO stamp and the 'two little hearts connected with a string' stamp. Stamping randomly with purple and violet memento ink. Then I took a Copic multiliner and doodled the frame. One tag was cut out from black cardstock and the other from watercolor paper, misted with water and sprinkled with brusho. I love the effect that it created. I stamped the sentiment onto watercolor paper and layered it with black cardstock to match the tags. To embellish my card I used a single violet pearl and a mulberry paper butterfly. My second card uses the NEW Wish Upon a Star clear set. Can you tell that I'm in love with Brusho a

Click HERE to see all the new digital additions in the Whimsy store. For my release creation I used Bunny Boxer Bum.  Oh my goodness! This is cuteness overload! The papers I've used are from Tracy's collection of digital papers, also availabe in the Whimsy store . I used papers from the NEW Pink Pop and Hot Stuff sets.   Sentiment is from the NEW Various Occasions 2 Sentiment Set also by Tracy. Acetate in Different Ways

Image
Hi Everyone, wishing you all a happy Monday! Today I have two cards to share, my Whimsy DT makes for last week and this week. Wrapped up in one posting because somehow I ran out of time last week...pfff. Ok here we go. This is my first card using the Lovely Lavender set from the Clearly Whimsy Stamps Collection. I made the background with my Distress markers and an acetate sheet inspired by a technique called Smackin' Acetate. You can find a tutorial HERE . It's super simple with a great effect. I stamped over the background with Versafine Onyx Black ink and added just a few pearls and rhinestones. I love my acetate sheets at the moment :-) Here is a card with an acetate overlay. This technique has been on my to do list for quite a while now. This is such a stunning effect, I looooove it! This super cute little kitty is from the Clearly Whimsy Purrfect Pals clear set by our very own  Tracy . I just love her designs! I colored using Inktense pencils.

Hearts, Hearts, Hearts and DIY Stencil

Image
Happy Wednesday Stamping Friends! Today I have a little How-To to share. Did you know that Whimsy Stamps sells DIY Stencil sheets for making your own stencils? It is super fun and also super easy to make your own stencils. You just use dies and cut out your favorite shapes and voila you have a stencil. I used the heart border die from the Card Builder - Hearts of Love set . I cut it 4 times using one of the blank stencil sheets. You just have to be careful when placing your dies on the sheet multiple times that it doesn't overlap where you already have cut outs. I used washi tape to secure the die on the stencil sheet to keep it from shifting. It's best to offset the dies when making kind of a background stencil like I did here.. As you can see on my stencil I rushed and didn't pay enough attention and two of the smaller hearts are too close together. Oh well, it is not perfect but I will use it anyway. ;-)   Here is the card where I used

To easily adhere the cut out honeycomb pattern I sprayed it with spray adhesive. Works like a charm and no messy gluey fingers ;-). Here we have Furry Friends by our very own Tracy Wray! I love this cute doggie set! Colored with Copics and and the background is done with Pitt Pastels. I stamped the image on the inside of the card and cut out a circle on the front so you can see through. All stamps used on my card are from the
