Grandtastic Birthday Hogs

Happy Saturday Everyone! Hope you all had a good week and enjoying the weekend now! Here is a card I made using the Piggies Background Stamp that was released earlier this month.

I customized the sentiment and created the word Hogs out of the Big Hugs Word die set and the Bold ABC die set. Together with the Fantabulous sentiment set and Birthday Word & Shadow die set I created the perfect sentiment for my Piggies BG.

Lookin Shark Challenge & Whimsy Release

It's challenge time again. My friends Alanna and Faye are challenging each other again. We each use  different coloring mediums but the same stamp sets. Make sure to visit their blogs to see their fabulous creations!
So this time we decided on the super cute Lookin' Sharp clear stamp set from Whimsy's newest release designed by Dustin Pike. I am using pencils today with a little twist to it.

I colored this fella with Caran D'ache Pablo pencils. This time I added a little twist to my pencil coloring by laying down the lightest color with alcohol markers. Just one color flat, no shading, nothing. Then I colored the image as I normally would with pencils. I used mixed media paper and a hybrid ink. I love this method working on a layer of base color. It also speeds up the coloring process a bit too and that is a nice advantage as pencil coloring can really be time consuming.

Yep, it's another shaker card 😂. Looks like I can't get enough of these lately. It's just such a nice effect to add a shaker element to a card. These shark stamps have matching outline dies as well (see all product links below). To create the background I used the new Slimline Taffy papers. These are slimline sized but are versatile and can be used on any card style. I created the word Jawsome out of the Awesome word die and the letter J from the cutie ABC set. I die cut all the word elements from pink glitter paper that matches the background paper. Then I removed the letter e from the word awesome and added the letter J and there you go: Jawsome 👍

Whimsy Mid Month Mini Release - #Fun

What a fun release this is - Whimsy Stamps mid month mini release! Do you like gnomes? Then this one definitely is for you! Check it out here in the Whimsy store. All Whimsy products I used are listed below with links!

I stamped the cute little gnome with the kite onto Strathmore mixed media paper using a black hybrid ink. I knew I want to use several different coloring mediums and this gave me options. I ended up coloring this cutie with alcohol markers, pencils and watercolors.

I have some alcohol markers which I do not like to use as much as others. So I had to think of a different way to use them and I tried combining them with other mediums. On my card today I used them together with pencils.
Oh and I will not mention any names of markers I don't like because I feel it is a personal preference if you like a marker brand or not. So for someone else they might be the perfect marker.

What I do is I lay down the lightest color (sometimes light and medium but mostly just the lightest color) with the alcohol marker as kind of a base color. Then I do the rest of the coloring and shading with my pencils. I combined pencils and markers before but then I colored like I normally would with markers and just used the pencils to add some more shading. In this case I used 3-4 different shades of each color with pencils. Also a very light shade that matches the shade of the alcohol marker. This makes blending much easier. I like this method and it is a fun way to color and faster than just using pencils on its own. If I use the markers this way I can get at least something out of them instead of having them just sitting on my shelves and drying out because i don't like this particular brand.

The outline and base was done with waterbased brush markers and instead of a waterbrush or brush and water I used a waterbased clear shimmer brushmarker to blend it out. This added a fantastic soft shimmer to my background as you can see in the photo above.

The background was stamped with the NEW Slimline Scribbles BG stamp and Oxide inks (kitsch flamingo, salvaged patina and mustard seed). All the card layers including the slimline cardbase were die cut using the NEW Slimline Cornered Rectangles Die Set.

Don't Let Anyone Ruffle Your Feathers - Whimsy Stamps June 1st Release

Hey Whimsy Fans! Again it's release time here at Whimsy and below you'll find my first creation for this release.

I used several of the new products (which you'll find in a link list below) and opted for a slimline card (3.5" x 8.5") again. The background is just a simple soft blue inked background. Then I used parts of the Chicken Coop die set and images of the Butt Nugget stamp set to create my scene. I cut out the images using the coordinating Butt Nugget Outline die set.

For the hens nests I used the also new Bandana 6x6 papers. To color my images I used Karin markers and the images were stamped with Versafine Onyx Black onto Grumbacker 140lb watercolor paper (smooth side).

Octopi Guy Challenge

Hello there! Ok, so here is yet another one with the adorable Octopi Guys. I know, I know, it's the third card in a row showing off the sweet octopus but I can't help it 😎 I love them so much 💜

My friends Alanna, Faye and I are doing a mini challenge again. This time we are all playing with the Octopi Guys....obviously....LOL. We all use different coloring mediums. Alanna is using Copics, Faye pencils and I used watercolors.

Please visit their blogs to see both of their fantastic creations:

Here is what I came up with using Karin markers to color my Octopi Guy

I decided to do a slimline shaker card. I used the Connected Bubbles die and NEW Slimline Under the Sea papers to create my background with the shaker element. I die cut the Connected Bubbles several times from white cardstock and once from glitter paper. I stacked them with the glitter version on top. This gives more dimension. I then made the largest bubble in the center a shaker element. I filled it with Sprinkletz Fish Tank. I glued some of the tiny fishes to the background of the shaker. This way they wont fall all down when the card is held upright.

Here is a close-up on the shaker element and the octopus. I also used some of the Octo-Elements  to decorate and bring everything together.

To color my Octopi Guy I used Karin Brushmarkers Pro. I stamped with Versamark Clair Nocturne ink - my favorite ink when I do watercoloring - onto Grumbacher 140lbs. watercolor paper. I stamped on the smooth side. I just recently discovered that paper at Walmart. It is fairly cheap and honestly I did not expect much. To my surprise I really liked it. Especially with the Karin markers it is working very well. It holds water quite well without starting to pill right away when doing several layers. For the price this is an awesome heavy weight watercolor paper to stamp on and watercolor images.

More Octopus Greetings - Big Hugs!

I just can't help it, I'm totally in love with the Octopi Guys ♡😍❤😍♡. This time I used one of the sweet characters together with the NEW A2 sized Wonky Window 4 die and the NEW Big Hugs Word die set

I made the middle window a shaker element and also dry embossed the background using the Wave Lengths Simline Embossing Folder. I colored the Octopus with Karin markers and cut him out using the matching NEW Octopi Guys outline dies.

I used the NEW Slimline Under the Sea papers to create the background of the other two windows. For my sentiment I die cut the NEW Big Hugs Word die set from white glitter paper.
